While metallic fillings are very durable and hard wearing, white fillings are now also resilient with the bonus of being tooth coloured so they blend in with your natural tooth.
Benefits include:
- Restore functionality of a tooth
- Fillings that look like teeth
What are white fillings?
Poor oral hygiene can lead to a build-up of plaque which can then lead to tooth decay.
Why do I need a filling?
If decay is left untreated, the nerve of the tooth may become infected and vulnerable to infection. So to prevent this, a filling will be recommended to clean out the decay and seal the tooth from harmful bacteria.
What does it involve?
- You may be numbed for the filling so it makes it comfortable for you.
- The cavity will be drilled and cleaned out. You will feel lots of vibrations and have water in your mouth which the nurse assistant will remove for you.
- Once, clean, the dentist will clean the tooth further with an etching gel, then a bonding agent is applied which si set with a curing light.
- The composite filling will be layered into the cavity to build it up into its original shape.
