A dental implant is a tiny metal screw that is placed into the jaw bone. It acts as a ‘root’ for the replacement tooth.
Suitable for:
- One missing tooth
- A few missing teeth
- Teeth that are badly damaged or loose
- A dentures alternative
What are dental implants?
The implant is made out of titanium, which has been proven to fully integrate into the bone. Once the implant area has healed, a crown is fitted on top to replace the missing tooth.
Dental implants look and feel just like natural teeth and are the leading choice for replacing missing teeth.
Implants can last a lifetime and many patients who have had dental implants don’t even feel like they ever lost a tooth as the replacement feels and functions just like their original.
What does it involve?
Our dentist will assess the mouth and review your medical history to check eligibility for dental Implants. If you are a smoker you will not qualify.
You will have relevant dental x-rays and 3D scans and CT scan to assess the mouth and bone quality. These records are also used for planning your treatment safely.
When the dentist places the implant this guided by a stent which ensures safe and accurate placement. We will then wait for the implant to integrate with the bone. During this time you may be offered a temporary denture or replacement.
When the implant has fully integrated a restoration is placed on top of the implant to replace the missing tooth/teeth.
